New places, new cultures… at each stop, the bags are stuffed with ethnic embroideries, folkloric prints and colors from another land. ‘CULTIVATING A TEAM SPIRIT’ theme by
MASAYUQI YOSHIDA

Wings, feathers, and elytrons, Masayuqi Yoshida has chosen to explore a unique symbol that for him expresses singularity, aspiration and respect. He has strengthened his expression through the technique of knitting, working with infinite shapes and materials. Since 1991, he has participated in both collective and individual exhibits in museums and galleries across Japan.

This winter at Playtime Tokyo, his knit work will take the shape of a giant tree, where people will gather and exchange in trust.

‘BREAKING THE RULES’ theme by
DAISUKE TAKAHASHI

Daisuke Takahashi was born in 1977 in Tokyo. In 2005 he launched in Paris ‘Disk1′, his ready to wear collection for women. Since he moved back to Tokyo in 2006, his creativity has expanded towards art work with the creation of fabric and cardboard pieces, regularly presented in shops and cafés.

In this trend space, handmade and digital expression will mix happily and efficiently.

‘WELCOME TO THE CLUB’ theme by
KIM SONGHE

Kim Songhe was born in Tokyo in 1982. After graduating from Oda Design College, she started her design activity. In 2005, her chandeliers displayed at the Loveless store in Aoyama caught many people’s eyes. Since then, she has produced many more for shop displays in Japan and exhibitions in San Francisco and Seoul museums (2009). Made by pasting ready-made products and described as “junk collage” her chandeliers look messy at first glance, but are nevertheless assembled in a strange balance, releasing a feeling of innocence. In her latest works she uses traditional lucky charms, such as Daruma, Manekineko and Kumade.

For Playtime she has created a disco/pop chandelier made of ‘bling’ accessories !

Hélène Barrier is the invites artist for the children’s trend space: “There’s a genuine aspiration today to go back to our roots. We’re looking to reconnect with nature and human values. Seeking simplicity, humility and authenticity is becoming a point of honor. Our children are becoming neo-farmers, pioneers of a new society in which collaboration and sustainability are favored. We seek natural materials, minimalist
shapes and ancestral know-how.”

Sophie Cuvelier is responsible for the second trend space, presenting “Welccome to the club.You need a password to get into the very private club of the 1%. In this club, members flaunt the codes of opulent luxury without a second thought and at no price do they want to resemble the hoi polloi. Chic is handed down like a heritage. The 1% gather at coming-out parties and rallies, where they indulge in the latest line dance. They are snobs and so very proud of it! ”

Lucie Vanderelst is breaking the rules “Young innovators are shaking up the establishment. Their rebellion is organized with humor. They stick out their tongues at good manners. A keyboard is their weapon and they “like” anything that challenges the status quo. Snap-back caps and sneakers are the new uniform. Our modern rebels broadcast revolutionary slogans on their t-shirts. The street is their soapbox.”

In the maternity area, The Game… of role-playing  is pconcepted by Carlin style agency  “A new order” for future parents! Be it nuclear, re-constructed or single parent, the family model has evolved and the roles have been tweaked. New “role-playing” games spring up well before the birth: the future father gets more involved in the pregnancy while the future mother wishes to stretch out her social and active “life before” as long as possible.”

‘Freaks Show’ Theme by

Currently working as an Art Director for a communications agency in Lyon, France, Marianne Schricke is just as talented in the domain of multimedia and interactive design as she is in graphics and global design. The versatile designer likes to play with graphic design in her spare time, mixing manual techniques and technical skills.
Don’t miss her fabulous Virago in an oneiric setting that oscillates between horror and poetry. An ambiguous character with hybrid looks, this paper sculpture shows a strong and virile woman who is surrounded by floating acolytes.

‘Curious Carrousel’ Theme by
Gwendoline Perrigueux

‘Bitstream Charter’, A party may come to mind / everything’s all jumbled up / domestic objects mix with all sorts of materials / these varied assemblages evoke something common / outside of the context of habitat, the domestic doesn’t make sense, it becomes strange, almost exotic / everything gets activated in a sort of acid colored festivity / the influences are blurred / this atmosphere is nothing but ephemeral / liquid is suspended in a solid state / hard and soft are difficult to tell apart / unrecognizable objects no longer have their original function / did we miss something? / artifice seems totally natural / flashy jewelry dresses up with sequins / hybrid shapes explode with bright colors / it’s a fiesta / in this joyful mess, something rings a bell, a troubled party that contaminates this sweetened superficiality / no one’s there.
So who will catch the brass ring on this curious carrousel?

‘Bitstream Charter’,  is an artist-sculptor, and a recent graduate of the Beaux Arts de Paris. Behind the bright colors that are usually found in her installations, hides a reflection about the real and the ephemeral, sometimes revealing the dark side of our “joyful” society.

In addition to her work for several publishing houses, she also pursues her work on “volumes”, initiated at l’ESAG. Inspired by Niki de Saint Phalle, Calder and Barry Flanagan, her structures are made of iron wire that is covered with pasted and painted paper. She dreams that one day her creations will find a home in shop windows.Meanwhile, her lovely “cotton candies” will float through the airy trend space, much to the delight of every foodie.

‘Attractions’ Theme by

Born in Abidjan, Barbara Cadet graduated from the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Appliqués Duperré in Paris, in 2007, with majors in Fashion and Environment. Fabrics, wire, and delicately cut-out, coated and glued paper; Barbara Cadet likes to play with these materials to create illustrations in 2 or 3 dimensions. Whether she’s sculpting, drawing, or creating a decor, she develops a fanciful and colorful personal universe based on her version of nature
In the maternity trend space, her animal masks will exalt the feelings and desires of a pregnant woman: extravagant, gourmand or mysterious.
